The campaign
Since October 5, 2026, OpenAI has been running a kind of advent calendar for Codex and ChatGPT Work users: for 28 days (through November 1), the promise is one clear improvement per day for most users. On days without one, everyone gets a full usage-limit reset; sometimes both. The campaign was announced on X by Thibault Sottiaux (@thsottiaux) of the Codex team and is tracked in a thread on the OpenAI community forum.
What has shipped so far (per the forum thread)
The list below is the one compiled on the official community forum from OpenAI's posts, through day 6:
- Day 1: GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol about 50% faster by default via subscription, including partners with "Sign in with ChatGPT" such as OpenCode, Pi, Amp and Devin.
- Day 2: Auto-review free (Settings → Permissions → Auto-review): a second agent reviews the main agent's actions, stops high-risk or off-request actions and doesn't count against your limit. Also: simplified API rate-limit qualification, a meetings plugin, the Decisions API in public beta and a reset for everyone.
- Day 3: GPT-6 and Intelligent UI for everyone, plus a banked reset for all paid accounts to celebrate 40 million Codex and Work users.
- Day 4: "Ultrafast" for GPT-6.1 Sol (API, Codex and ChatGPT Work) and near-instant conversation steering.
- Day 5: Dots updates and Composer predictions in Codex for Pro users.
- Day 6: reset.
- Day 7: GPT-6.1 Sol's default context in Codex and Work rose from 272K to 500K tokens (about 80% more), to cut down on compactions during long tasks.
- Day 8 (October 13): another global usage-limit reset for everyone, confirmed by Sottiaux on X.
One forum user measured worse GPT-6.1 Sol performance right after Day 1 and better results the next day, after rollout finished. Treat speed figures as variable.
How banked resets work
According to OpenAI's Help Center:
- A banked reset is a one-time Codex usage-limit reset saved to your account until used or expired. It is not credit and does not raise your plan limit.
- To use one: Settings → Usage (desktop app, CLI or web), pick the available reset, check the expiry and confirm.
- It refreshes the 5-hour and weekly windows and moves your weekly reset date to about a week after you use it.
- It is consumed only if it refreshes at least one window.
- Global resets apply directly and do not create a banked reset.
- Support does not grant manual resets, and an expired reset cannot be restored.
Practical tip
If your team uses Codex, save resets for peak weeks (releases, migrations) and check expiry in Settings → Usage. Remember that using one moves your weekly date.
