"I want to build my website with a subsidy" is one of the most common requests. Under the 小規模事業者持続化補助金 it is possible, with one important rule. Figures from round 19 (2026), per the official guide.
The ウェブサイト関連費 rule
- Websites fall under ウェブサイト関連費 (building, renewing, improving or running a site or online shop).
- This category can be at most 1/4 of the total subsidy, capped at ¥500,000.
- You cannot apply for a website alone. If all costs are website costs, the application is rejected.
In practice
With the ¥500,000 base cap, the website part can reach ¥125,000 of subsidy. The rest must come from other categories: flyers and signs (広報費), trade shows, equipment, etc.
A balanced plan: shop flyer and sign + equipment + new website with English and Portuguese versions.
What else counts as website costs
Per official material: a logo used on the site, website translation, online ad management, opening a marketplace store, creating official social media accounts and videos for the site.
Tips
- The website should be part of a customer-acquisition plan, not the goal itself.
- Get itemized quotes separating website work from the rest.
- Keep every receipt; costs without documents are not accepted.
