The ものづくり補助金 is one of Japan's best-known subsidies for investing in machines and systems. Round 23 closed on 8 May 2026. From fiscal 2026 (令和8年度) it became part of a new program, the 新事業進出・ものづくり商業サービス補助金, run by SMRJ (中小機構).
The 革新的新製品・サービス枠 (innovative products track)
This is the track that replaces the old monozukuri subsidy. It funds developing a new product or service, not just improving a process you already run. Buying a machine or system without creating something new does not qualify.
- Rate: 1/2 for SMEs (2/3 under the regional minimum wage special rule); 2/3 for small businesses (小規模事業者) and turnaround companies.
- Cap by headcount: 1–5: ¥7.5M (¥8.5M with the wage-increase special rule); 6–20: ¥10M (¥12.5M); 21–50: ¥15M (¥25M); 51+: ¥25M (¥35M).
- Minimum: ¥1M of subsidy.
- Required cost: machinery and system building (機械装置・システム構築費). Cloud services, outsourcing, advertising and others can be added, with limits.
Requirements that matter
- A 3–5 year plan with value added growing 4.0% per year.
- Average pay per employee growing 3.5% per year and an internal minimum wage ¥30 above the regional minimum. Missing these can mean paying part of the money back.
- Online application with a GビズIDプライム account.
First-round deadline
According to SMRJ, round 1 accepts applications from 30 September to 30 October 2026, 18:00 (planned).
Note: rules, amounts and deadlines change every fiscal year and every round. This article summarizes the official sources linked here as of publication and is not legal or tax advice. Always check the latest guidelines (公募要領) before signing any contract.
