When starting a business, IT is often left for later. But what is done right on day one saves rework, cost and risk later. Use this checklist.

Online identity

  • Your own domain, registered in the company's name (not an employee's or a third party's).
  • Email on that domain (e.g. contact@yourcompany.jp).
  • A simple website with services, address and contact, in your customers' languages.
  • Company profiles on LINE and the social networks your customers use.

Accounts and access

  • One account per person, never shared accounts.
  • Two-factor authentication on email, banking and admin accounts.
  • A password manager for the team.
  • A list of who can access what, updated at every hire and departure.

Devices and network

  • Computers with updated systems and antivirus.
  • Router password changed and a separate guest network.
  • Legitimate software licenses.

Data

  • Automatic backup with a copy outside the office.
  • A restore test done at least once.
  • Care with customers' personal data: who accesses it and where it is stored.

Support

  • Someone to call when something goes wrong, who speaks your language.
